10 beautiful proposal spots on our network

13 January 2022

Everyone loves a romantic proposal, and we're no different. With Valentine's Day on the way, we decided to put together a list of the best 10 spots to pop the question on our network.

1. Tylney Hall Hotel

Our nearest station: Hook
Getting there: Tylney Hall is a 35-minute walk, or just 10 minutes by taxi

66 acres of gardens surround the incredible Tylney Hall, now a charming upmarket country hotel. Tastefully in tune with the Grade II-listed building it occupies, it's an ideal spot for a romantic getaway and a surprise proposal.

Tylney Hall and Bluebells

Best spot to propose: The sweeping walnut-walled staircase - down on one knee, of course. If the weather holds, consider the garden - flanked by redwood trees to lead to the longest uninterrupted view in Hampshire.
Where to end the day: The stunning hotel restaurant, and a room - starting at less than £200 per night.

Barton-on-Sea is tucked on the edge of the New Forest, with sweeping coastal scenery and pretty water meadows, as well as the chines dotted about (known locally as "bunnies"). A perfect spot for outdoor explorers hoping to make a memorable day.

Seaside at Barton-on-Sea

Best spot to propose: Sunset on the cliff-tops, with gorgeous views out across the sea.
Where to end the day: Head to Chewton Glen if you're really pushing the boat out. Cost-conscious couples may prefer the The Cliff House - a four-star traditional hotel, with cosy rooms and sea views.

4. Durdle Door

Our nearest station: Wool or Weymouth
Getting there: by taxi it's just 15 minutes from Wool station, but if you're environmentally-minded the X54 bus runs regularly from Weymouth station and takes 30 minutes.

Durdle Door is probably one of the most recognised landmarks on our network, but that doesn't detract from just how beautiful it is. The blue waters of the bay, coupled with the yellow sands and a sunny day make for a picnic with a difference.

Durdle Door

Best spot to propose: A mid-afternoon picnic in the shadow of the door itself, with the ring hidden in a glass of champagne for a truly classic proposal.

When the days are sunnier, there's really nothing quite like a gentle sightseeing tour of Windsor from the river. The beautiful buildings of Eton College, and the magnificent walls of Windsor Castle make a perfect backdrop to propose to your partner.

Best spot to propose: We recommend the stretch of river next to Windsor Castle as the perfect dramatic backdrop.

The Whispering Gallery at St Paul's Cathedral

Best spot to propose: Whisper the question at one side when your beloved is at the other. If they're the only one near the wall, they'll be the only one to hear you.
