Guide to the South West’s Michelin starred restaurants

In this article, you'll learn the following:

If you’re in the mood for getting suited and booted and experiencing some of the finest grub the south west has to offer, then you’ve come to the right place. London and the south west are brimming with Michelin-starred restaurants that will bring joy to every foodie. Covering a range of cuisines and budgets, there’s something for every taste and preference, whether you’re into traditional French cookery, modern takes on British classics, or something from slightly further afield.

Dining at a Michelin star restaurant rarely comes cheap unless you're lucky enough to grab a spot during the London Restaurant Festival in June and October, but for a special occasion and an experience that’ll stay with you for years to come, you can’t beat it! Read on to discover some of the best Michelin star restaurants in London and the south west, and get ready to amuse your bouche.

Unsurprisingly, London is home to the most Michelin star restaurants in all of the UK, but our region is home to many Michelin star restaurants, covering a range of cuisines. Here are some of our favourites that are within easy reach of a South Western Railway station:

Chez Bruce

Chez Bruce

For high-end French cuisine in a relaxed and informal yet fancy setting, head to Chez Bruce. As can be expected from a classic French restaurant (albeit with a strong Mediterranean influence), you’ll be treated to homemade charcuterie, slow cooked braises, classical desserts and excellent bread and cheese. In fact, the restaurant takes the cheese board very seriously indeed, and it forms an integral part of the experience.

Catch the train to Clapham Junction station, then hop on a connecting six-minute train to Wandsworth Common or ride the 319 bus for less than 15 minutes to get here.

The Goring Hotel

The Goring

Treat yourself to a royal experience at The Dining Room at The Goring Hotel. Frequented by the late Queen, Elizabeth II, as well as Catherine, Princess of Wales, this refined British Michelin-starred restaurant is as fancy as they come, with Swarovski-encrusted chandeliers adorning the opulent Edwardian dining room. The food is just as exquisite too, made from fresh, high-quality ingredients from suppliers across the British Isles.

From London Waterloo, The Goring Hotel is a 20-minute ride away on the number 507 bus.

Hakkasan

Chopsticks at the ready, it’s time to sample chef Tong Chee Hwee's contemporary take on Chinese cuisine. Founded in 2001, Hakkasan’s dishes are inspired by ancient recipes and are cooked with traditional techniques but with added flair. Don’t miss the crispy duck salad, the grilled Chilean seabass with Chinese honey and the exotic fruit platter. Prepare yourself for a super-stylised experience in this Mayfair spot – it’s somewhat of a celebrity haunt too, so keep an eye out for famous faces as you tuck into dim sum and sip on an innovative cocktail creation.

From London Waterloo, travel for five minutes on the Jubilee line to Green Park to get to Hakkasan.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

If you like your food with a side of science then Dinner by Heston Blumenthal will be right up your street. Blumenthal is renowned for his whacky twists on traditional British recipes, so prepare yourself for a sensory explosion at this two-Michelin-starred restaurant. Examples of what you might experience include powdered duck breast, meat fruit and brown bread ice cream.

Catch a train to London Waterloo then take the tube for 15 minutes to Knightsbridge to begin the adventure.

Latymer

Latymer, Pennyhill Park

For a Michelin star dining experience in Surrey, head to Latymer in Pennyhill Park Hotel. From the moment you step through the door you’ll be greeted with a feeling of luxury – with wood-panelled walls, beamed ceilings and plush fabrics throughout. And the luxury doesn’t stop at the décor - the exquisite tasting menus offer bold flavours, clever combinations and locally sourced ingredients. Expect dazzling presentation and a mouth-watering wine list.

The nearest station is Bagshot, which is just 10-minutes away on the number 500 bus.
