World Book Day takes place each year on the first Thursday in March, this year falling on the 6 of the month.

Celebrate International Women’s Day in London. This year’s theme is ‘Accelerate Action’, which emphasises the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally, but some of the biggest events are held in London including talks, concerts, walks and more.  

London's the best hub to find International Women's Day events - including International Women's Day at the Royal Albert Hall - a special concert showcasing the work of female composers. Another one worth a look in is Women in Jazz at Southbank Centre, and it's just a 5-minute walk from Waterloo Station.

Non-League Day

28 March

See some football games on Non-League Day - an annual event which celebrates semi-professional and grassroots football, with South Western Railway as its official partner. It was set up by James Doe, an SWR Guard based at Waterloo, in 2010 and has gone on to become a national success story.

On this day each year, football fans are encouraged to head out to watch a game at their local non-league club while Premier League and Championship football pauses for international fixtures.

Celebrated globally, St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most fun-filled days in the annual calendar, when celebrators enjoy Irish traditions including eating Irish stew, dancing to live music and more. The religious holiday - celebrated annually on 17 March - is a tribute to the death of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. 

London’s a key hub for celebrations with plenty going on for you to choose from, including the St Patrick’s Festival. There are heaps of Irish pubs across the capital to choose from, including Mc & Sons in Borough, The Ald Shillelagh in Stoke Newington, and The Cow in Notting Hill. Head to London Waterloo by train to start your Paddy’s Day adventure.

There are also great events up and down the region on St Patrick’s weekend. Head to O’Neil’s or Aruba in Bournemouth for parties and entertainment. In Windsor, go to Royal Windsor for traditional Irish food and drinks.
