The AJ Bell Great South Run is returning to Portsmouth this October, bringing thousands of runners, supporters and spectators to the South Coast for one of the UK’s most favourite running events.

The AJ Bell Great South Run takes place on Sunday 18 October 2026.

The 10-mile event sees runners make their way along scenic route through Portsmouth and Southsea. The race starts and finishes at the north end of Avenue De Caen, close to Southsea Common and the seafront.

How do I get to Portsmouth? 

Travelling by Train to Portsmouth 

The nearest stations for the Great South Run are Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour. Both are well placed for getting into the city, with Southsea Common and the seafront around a short onward journey away.
