Where is Weymouth?

Weymouth can be found in the south of the country, a sea-side town located in Dorset. The town is well accessible with SWR and there are many transport links in and out of the area. 

How do I get to Weymouth?

Travelling by train

There are regular trains serving Weymouth every day, making it easy to travel here from many different locations. Weymouth train station can be found on King Street, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 7BN and is just a 10-minute walk from Weymouth Town Centre

Weymouth can be accessed from many major cities and towns like Southampton, with trains from Southampton to Weymouth taking approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. Travelling from further out? You can get to Weymouth from Basingstoke in just over two hours with SWR.

Travelling from London

It’s easy to get to Weymouth from both London Waterloo and Clapham Junction, and you can travel direct from Waterloo to Weymouth Train Station in 2 hours 40 minutes.

Weymouth station is around a 15-minute walk from Weymouth Pavillion, or you can catch the Portland Coaster if you want to experience the coastal views from the open top bus.

Summer Season of Firework

Weymouth’s summer fireworks displays are back with a bang in 2026. Watch the sky sparkle throughout the summer, with displays taking place on the 3rd August, 10th August, 17th August, 24th August, and the 31st August. These displays take place on Weymouth Seafront at 9.30pm.

Weymouth Armed Forces Weekend

One of the town’s biggest annual highlights is Weymouth Armed Forces Weekend, celebrating serving personnel, veterans, and their families. This year’s dates are Saturday 20th June and Sunday 21st June, featuring historic military vehicle displays, live music, charity stalls, an open‑air service at the Cenotaph, and a large parade along the seafront. The weekend concludes with the Armed Forces Flag raising ceremony on Monday 22nd June at the New Town Hall. 


More Activities in Weymouth

Later in the year, the activities in Weymouth Town don’t slow down, and spring brings new community‑focused events. Throughout March 2026, visitors can take part in friendly, local cookery sessions at the Park Centre, run by The Friendly Food Club, where you can learn new skills and recipes in a relaxed social setting. More spring and summer events are still being updated, so visitors should keep an eye on the council’s online events calendar for the latest listings. Looking ahead to late autumn and winter, the Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade is set to return in November (date TBC), while December typically features popular seasonal activities including Carols by the Coast, Santa Weekend and the Christmas Day Harbour Swim. Dates for these 2026 events will be confirmed on the council website as they are announced. 

Things to do near Weymouth

Weymouth is the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for a sea-side getaway, with stunning scenery and coastal attractions all along Weymouth’s Georgian seafront. A popular destination during summer months, there are other beaches to explore too such as Chesil Beach and Bowleaze Cove.

The fascinating Weymouth SEA LIFE is one of the main attractions in the town, keeping both parents and kids entertained with its amazing aquarium and adventure playground. If you travel here by train, you can a great 2-for-1 offer with your SWR train ticket. 

If you want to experience Weymouth on foot, then explore the South West Coast Path, offering walking trails with wildlife and bird-watching opportunities. For the more daring we recommend the 13-mile round Portland Walk which is not to be missed!
