Apology for severe disruption 22 October

I'm truly sorry to everyone affected by last night's disruption.

Shortly after 4pm, a vulnerable person was seen in a dangerous position on a bridge above the railway near Woking. Following instructions from the emergency services, we were unable to safely run trains through the area.

The incident continued until nearly 1am and, throughout that time, the emergency services advised that it was not safe to reopen the railway. As a result, we were unable to resume train services until they confirmed the situation had been safely resolved.

I know this caused significant disruption and frustration for many people trying to get home, and I am sincerely sorry.

Our teams worked throughout the night to support customers and prepare the network for the start of service today, despite the challenges caused by displaced trains and train crews.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
