Between Sunday 26 July and Sunday 16 August services between London Charing Cross and Waterloo East will be affected by planned engineering work. During this time trains will not call at Waterloo East and London Charing Cross station. Please plan ahead and check before you travel.

Between Monday 13 April and Wednesday 26 August 2026 the lifts at Southampton Central station will be refurbished, affecting step-free access.

• The work to refurbish the lift on platform 1 is now complete. 
• The work to refurbish the lift on platform’s 2 and 3 is now complete

• The work to the lifts on platform 4 has been temporarily delayed. Please check back for further information.

On affected dates, a free taxi service will be available to transfer customers between platforms.

Customers who need to transfer between platforms or exit the station when these lifts are closed will need to circulate via other stations.

Berrylands station will be closed for upgrades from Monday 11 May until the end of September. Trains will not call at the station during this closure.

Rail replacement bus services will run to New Malden and Surbiton every 30 minutes from the bus stops on Surbiton Hill Park, a short walk from Berrylands station.

Boomtown Festival – Wednesday 12 to Sunday 16 August 2026

The Boomtown Festival takes place in the Winchester area between Wednesday 12 and Sunday 16 August.

While we’ve added extra carriages on some services between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour via Basingstoke, and between London Waterloo and Weymouth, some services towards Winchester will be much busier than usual.

Large numbers of customers heading to the event are expected to arrive on the afternoons of Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13.

If you are planning to travel to the event, please plan ahead and allow plenty of time to make your journey.

Queuing system

A special shuttle bus operated by the Boomtown Festival will run from the station car park to the festival site.

Due to the large number of customers expected, a queuing system will be in place at the front of the station. The longest queue times are expected between 1200 and 1600 on Wednesday and Thursday, with a wait time of around 45 minutes.

To facilitate the queuing system, the Andover Road car park will be closed between Monday 10 and Thursday 13 August. Alternative parking is available in the Stockbridge Road car park.

Work to modernise the footbridge at Clapham Junction started earlier this year and is expected to be completed in November 2027.

So that the footbridge can remain open and services aren’t disrupted, engineers will work section by section. While the work is taking place, space on the bridge will be reduced.

In connection with these improvements, the lifts to platforms 1 and 2 will be out of service on three separate dates in July and August.

There will no step-free access from the Grant Road entrance on the following dates:

Sunday 26 July
Sunday 9 August
Sunday 16 August
On these days, customers that need step-free access should use the Brighton Yard entrance.

Brighton Yard can be accessed at street level from St John’s Hill or via the ramp to the subway at Grant Road.

Please listen to station announcements, follow signage and allow extra time for your journey. At peak times, please allow an extra 10 minutes.
