SOUTH Western Railway (SWR) is reminding customers to check before travelling this weekend, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June, as major engineering works in the New Malden area significantly extend some journey times.

Journey times on the mainline between London and destinations like Bournemouth and Weymouth will be approximately 30 to 45 minutes longer than usual.

Services and stations across the South Coast are expected to be very busy. Customers should plan ahead and allow extra time to board a train.

While the extreme heat from earlier in the week will subside slightly, temperatures will remain high. Customers are encouraged to bring a bottle of water and should not board a train if they are feeling unwell.

Stuart Meek, Chief Operating Officer for South Western Railway and Network Rail Wessex, said:

“While the extreme heat of the past few days will thankfully subside slightly, we must remind customers, especially those heading to the South Coast, to check before travelling this weekend.

“Please plan ahead for significantly extended journey times and busier trains between London and destinations like Bournemouth and Weymouth, and remember to bring a bottle of water, as temperatures are still expected to be high.

“We are sorry for the disruption and thank our customers for their patience, understanding and support during this challenging week.”

Unused tickets for services between Tuesday 23 and Friday 26 June are valid for travel until Tuesday 30 June. Customers intending to travel this weekend should check whether their route is affected by the engineering works.
