Monday 03rd June 2019
  • Free travel will be available for veterans and members of the armed forces on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June from any SWR station to Portsmouth
  • SWR proud to support D-Day commemorations

South Western Railway is proud to honour the armed forces community by offering free travel for veterans, serving troops, and cadets ahead of D-Day commemorations in Portsmouth.

Armed forces personnel will be able to travel on South Western Railway services to Portsmouth for free, on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June. They just need to be able to show their military identification.

The offer is also open to members of the cadet forces and veterans who display valid identification, such as the MOD issued Veteran's Badge.

Supporting the D-Day commemorations means a lot to SWR as many of its staff, including guards, signallers, engineers and drivers, are ex-members of the armed forces.

Andy Mellors, Managing Director for South Western Railway, said:
"We know that many veterans and former members of the armed services want to travel to Portsmouth Harbour for events around the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. I’m really pleased we are able to honour them with this offer of free travel.”
