South Western Railway is delighted to announce that the Friends of Brockenhurst station (FOBS) has become the latest addition to its station adoption family.

The group is now the official adoption group for Brockenhurst station, and in recognition of their efforts, SWR has supported the group to become a registered member of the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP), the national body for community rail.

Over the last two years FOBS has helped improve the station by planting several floral displays on the platform and near the entrance to the ticket office. The group is now helping SWR with its plans to enhance the waiting room ambience between platforms 3 and 4, and designing new displays for the walls that recognise the history of the station, the local community, as well as raise the profile of their group.

SWR’s Community Rail Manager, Andy Harrowell, said:
“We are committed to bringing our services closer to the communities they serve, and that includes encouraging more local groups to adopt stations. FOBS has undertaken excellent work at the station and I’m delighted that we can recognise their efforts.

“We now have 22 ACoRP registered station adopters and hope that people will either get involved in one of these groups or consider adopting their own station.”

John Wingham, who co-ordinated the adoption of the station, said:
“Brockenhurst Station has been at the heart of our community for more than 150 years. FOBS wants to encourage and develop a closer relationship with the rail industry, working towards improvements that promote sustainable travel, passenger experiences and bringing people together."
