Music on the move

The final performances of 'Music on the Move' onboard South Western Railway and Wightlink services begins this Friday and Saturday (16 & 17 August).

‘Music on the Move’ is an inventive reimagining of traditional local music, with live performances from Mark Thomas and JC Grimshaw, South Wight Jazz Club, and the Bunker Girls, Ali Smith and Michelle Salsbury, which have delighted train and ferry passengers this summer.

Andy Harrowell, South Western Railway’s Community Rail Manager, said:
"This has been a great initiative which has brought local music to our passengers. South Wight Jazz Club and the Bunker Girls have been well-received, and we hope that more people will take the chance to enjoy their final performances this Friday and Saturday.

"Thank you to the Community Rail Partnerships, Wightlink and the musicians for bringing 'Music on the Move' to life."

Stuart James, Wightlink’s Marketing and Innovation Director, said:
"We're delighted to work with South Western Railway to host ‘Music on the Move’ onboard our ferries this summer, it has proven extremely popular amongst our passengers as they travelled to and from the Island. It is a welcome addition to the year-round performances that we try to schedule across many of our routes to entertain our passengers and help showcase local talent."

On Friday, performances will begin onboard the 08.50 Wightlink service to the mainland, and then continue back and forth until 12:00 when the band musicians board the Lymington to Brockenhurst service. Then they will travel on the 14.00 Cross-Country Train to Winchester before returning with South Western Railway on the 14.49. Their final musical leg will be on the 16.12 back to Lymington Pier before catching the Wightlink at 17.00 back to the Isle of Wight.

Saturday on the Island Line will see their final performances start at 08.24 on the service from Sandown towards Ryde, back and forth along the line, continuing onto the 11.47 Wightlink service to Portsmouth Harbour. The group will accompany four round ferry trips before re-joining the Island line for their final performance on the 15.49 Ryde Pier Head service to Sandown.
