Where's the best coffee in Thames Ditton? At the railway station - of course!

  • Clinched the overall winner of the competition for the second year running

Elmbridge Borough Council recently celebrated its local independent businesses in its 6th annual Independent Retail Awards. Residents voted for their favourite local independents in six categories, with votes cast for shops, Cafés, restaurants and service retailers across the Borough.Rob Moran and Tim Oliver present Alaa Habbooby with his award.

The overall winner, Café Noir based at South Western Railway's Thames Ditton station, and run by Mr Alaa Habbooby scooped the top award for the second year running with committed customers coming out to support their favourite local coffee shop.

Feedback from residents included: ‘Fantastic service, always goes above and beyond. Makes me smile everyday’ ; There is nowhere like it! This is mainly due to its owner, who is the kindest, happiest man around’ ; and 'Al is a community champion. His coffee keeps me going every day. Nothing is too much trouble for him'

And on 'Foursquare' social media: 'Al is the maestro. Best coffee in Thames Ditton and always served with a smile and a friendly greeting. Even in rush hour when he's a genius at ensuring everyone gets their drink AND their train.'

Scott Cooper, South Western Railway's station manager at Thames Ditton said:"We're delighted that once again Café Noir has scooped the top prize. Alaa continues to offer a fantastic service to our customers andwe are very lucky to have him at our station."
