Between Monday 13 April and Wednesday 26 August 2026 the lifts at Southampton Central station will be refurbished, affecting step-free access.

Please read the following information carefully to see if your journey is affected. We also recommend allowing extra time to complete your journeys.

• The lifts will on platform 1 will be closed from Monday 13 April to Tuesday 26 May, affecting customers travelling on SWR services towards Romsey via Eastleigh and London Waterloo, CrossCountry services towards Manchester Piccadilly, and GWR services towards Portsmouth Harbour.
• The lifts on platform 4 will be closed from Wednesday 27 May to Tuesday 7 July, affecting customers travelling on SWR services towards Salisbury and Weymouth, CrossCountry services towards Bournemouth, and GWR services towards Cardiff Central. 

On the above dates, a free taxi service will be available to transfer customers between platforms.

• The lifts on platforms 2 and 3 will be closed from Thursday 16 July to Wednesday 26 August, affecting customers travelling on SWR services towards Bournemouth (stopping), Portsmouth & Southsea and Salisbury, and Southern services towards Brighton. 

Customers who need to transfer between platforms or exit the station when these lifts are closed will need to circulate via other stations.

From Monday 23 March 2026 to November 2027, we will be modernising the footbridge at Clapham Junction.

So that the footbridge can remain open and services aren’t disrupted, engineers will work section by section. While the work is taking place, space on the bridge will be reduced.

Please listen to station announcements, follow signage and allow extra time for your journey. At peak times, please allow an extra 10 minutes.

Berrylands station will be closed for upgrades from Monday 11 May until the end of September. Trains will not call at the station during this closure.

Rail replacement bus services will run to New Malden and Surbiton every 30 minutes from the bus stops on Surbiton Hill Park, a short walk from Berrylands station.

Lines between Fareham, Havant and Portsmouth will be closed from Monday 25 to Friday 29 May (inclusive) due to engineering work.

Throughout the week, buses will replace trains between Fareham, Havant and Portsmouth as follows:

Havant and Portsmouth Harbour – calling at Bedhampton, Hilsea, Fratton and Portsmouth & Southsea.

Fareham and Portsmouth Harbour - calling at Portchester, Cosham, Hilsea, Fratton and Portsmouth & Southsea.

Our new timetable will start on Sunday 17 May, with minor changes to train times.

Monday to Saturday services between London Waterloo and Reading will be re-timed, calling additionally at Vauxhall.
