Love to blossom at Clapham Junction this Valentine’s Day

Tuesday 12th February 2019
  • A Valentine’s Day ‘love wall’ for passengers to write messages to loved ones at Clapham Junction
  • Station announcer will read out messages from passengers throughout the day
  • Activities raising money for the British Heart Foundation ‘Love Note’ campaign
South Western Railway is helping love blossom at Clapham Junction this Valentine’s day in support of the British Heart Foundation.

For a second year in a row, hopelessly romantic passengers can write special messages to loved ones on a dedicated Valentine’s Day ‘love wall’ in the waiting area between platforms 9 and 10 at Clapham Junction. Chris Boyce, station announcer and resident cupid, will brighten passengers’ commute by reading out romantic ‘love announcements’ throughout the day. Station staff at Clapham Junction will also hand out Valentine’s Day treats to lucky passengers on their commute.

Passengers’ donations from the day will raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Love Note’ campaign and help fund research for people suffering from serious heart conditions.

Fiona Brown, Clapham Junction’s Duty Station Manager, organising the Valentine’s Day event on behalf of South Western Railway, said
“The Clapham Junction team are helping love blossom this Valentine’s day in support of the British Heart Foundation. This year, we’re handing out lucky treats to passengers, and Chris Boyce, the station’s cupid, will read out messages passengers have written for loved ones.
“Showing a little love can not only make a passenger’s day, but help fund research for people suffering from serious heart conditions.”

Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director at The British Heart Foundation, said
“While we might be tempted to splash out on gifts and trinkets for Valentine’s Day, there’s nothing more romantic than simply telling someone how you feel. Since Love Notes launched in 2003, it has helped to raise £4.3 million for research into heart disease. By dedicating a Love Note to a special someone – whether that’s a partner, a parent or a friend – you’ll be helping the BHF continue to beat heartbreak forever.”
