Passengers travelling through Southampton reminded to check before they travel

Tuesday 09th January 2018

South Western Railway passengers have been reminded to plan their journeys in advance of three upcoming weekends of planned engineering works – Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 February.

This follows Network Rail’s £8million investment into the railway in the Southampton area over the Christmas period to deliver more reliable journeys and quieter tracks for lineside neighbours near Northam Junction. The weekend work will see the new infrastructure monitored, tested and adjusted as the track settles while it supports the running of the railway.

Services through Southampton will be disrupted, including between London and Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth. Passengers can plan journeys in advance at www.southwesternrailway.com

Jason Bridges, chief operating officer for Network Rail’s Wessex route, said:

“As is usual following the completion of significant engineering works, we need to review and monitor the new infrastructure as it settles while supporting the running of the railway. We thank passengers for their patience in advance.”

Chris Loder, Head of Service Strategy for South Western Railway, said:

“We encourage passengers to check our website before they travel ahead of Network Rail’s engineering works over the course of these three weekends. Buses will replace trains on many services in the Southampton area.
“We’re doing all we can to minimise disruption and make sure we get all our passengers to their destination during this time.”
