The Mortlake station team is celebrating this week after their popular Ticket Office Clerk scooped a customer service award from South Western Railway. Daniel Opoku was presented with his award along with a number of colleagues who were also honoured for their outstanding contributions.

Daniel is known as a “local legend” who always has a positive impact on the performance of the people around him. He is on first-name terms with many of his regular customers and is known to sing songs to them on their birthday or special occasions over the PA system. Colleagues say he isn’t afraid to be different and that working with him is always fun. Daniel was even nominated to carry the Olympic torch by some of his regular customers back in 2012 in recognition of his public service.

Andy Mellors, South Western Railway’s Managing Director, said: “I am proud of all of our Excellence Awards winners who have provided first class customer service over the past year. They represent the very best of our company values and clearly love the work that they do.

“We can only recognise a small number of our employees at these awards but we know we have dedicated teams across the entire South Western Railway patch who go the extra mile every day.”

On receiving his award, Daniel said: ”It was a fantastic honour and surprise to pick up this award in front of all my peers. The award I won was named ‘Committed to our Customers’ which is certainly true. I’m very grateful for the recognition and will do my best to continue entertaining customers and providing exceptional customer service at Mortlake.”
