This weekend, communities across our network will come together to mark Remembrance Sunday, honouring the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community.

At 11:00 on Sunday 8 November, many people will observe a two-minute silence in remembrance of those who have served and those who have given their lives in conflict.

We invite customers travelling with us this weekend to join us in taking a moment to remember. Please be aware that remembrance services and events may lead to increased passenger numbers at some stations and on some services.

From Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November, buses will replace trains between Farnham and Alton while we carry out urgent engineering work.

Ground movement has been detected at an embankment in the Gravel Hill area, just over a mile from Bentley station.

To prevent further movement and allow trains to travel at normal speeds, engineers will install a series of 10-metre-long metal sheet piles into the ground that will strengthen the embankment.

Trains are still running between Farnham and Alton but for safety reasons they must travel at reduced speeds until this work starts.

Throughout Friday 6 November, train services will end their journeys at Farnham, with a connecting bus service to Alton.

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, trains will only run between Farnham and Guildford due to separate engineering work in the Woking area, with a connecting bus service to Alton.

Buses to and from Alton will be timed to meet trains departing from and arriving into Farnham.

We are very sorry for the short notice of this additional engineering work.

We are expecting some significant waiting time on some of these routes due to limited availability of rail replacement services. These services are also expected to be much busier than usual.

Between Saturday 31 October and Sunday 15 November the Island line will be closed for improvements. 

Between Monday 16 November and Saturday 28 November, the line will be closed between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde St Johns Road only.

Saturday 31 October to Sunday 15 November:
• Buses will replace trains between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade.
• Buses will replace trains between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin, calling at Ryde St John’s Road, Brading, Sandown and Lake.

Monday 16 November to Saturday 28 November:
• Buses will replace trains between Ryde Esplanade and Ryde St Johns Road.

Train services will continue to run between Ryde St Johns Road and Shanklin.

A special timetable will be in place across the SWR network during the Nations Championships Finals, to help fans get to the event on Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November.

While extra trains will run between London Waterloo/Reading and Twickenham, services are expected to be extremely busy.

Major engineering work at Dolphin Junction (located between Slough & Langley) will affect other operators’ routes into London Paddington meaning more fans are likely to travel on the SWR network.

What this means for your journey

Friday 27 November

The second match kicks off later than usual, at 2010.

Because a queuing system will be in place at Twickenham station after the event, fans should pay particular attention to their return journeys and allow sufficient time to travel.

Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November

SWR services between Reading and Twickenham are expected to be extremely busy.

On both days, boarding controls will be in place at Reading. After the event, queuing systems will be in place at Twickenham.

Other stations on our network are also expected to be busy including, Clapham Junction, Guildford and London Waterloo.

Travelling, but not going to the match?

Services between London Waterloo/Reading and Twickenham will be extremely busy across the weekend.

In connection with the engineering work at Dolphin Junction, a special shuttle service will operate between Reading and Guildford on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 to help customers travelling to and from London.

If you are travelling between Reading and London Waterloo, but not attending the Nations Championships Finals, please consider travelling outside of the busiest periods before and after event.
