Ticket Types

Find the right ticket with the best price for your journey.

We always make sure to show you the cheapest fare possible but do check each ticket type below to make sure it’s right for you.

Advance

If you can plan ahead, Advance tickets offer great value – plus you get to reserve a seat (on trains with reservable seating). Advance tickets are one-way, so you can mix and match your outward journey with Advance tickets for your return. It pays to be organised – Advance tickets are only valid on the date and time chosen and are non-refundable.

Super Off-Peak

Super Off-Peak tickets mean travelling at quieter times and avoiding the rush. If you can avoid certain days of the week and peak hours then these tickets can save you money without committing you to a specific.

Off-Peak

Off-Peak tickets give you great savings on quieter trains but with fewer restrictions than Super Off-Peak. Buy them at any time before you travel.

Anytime

These are the most flexible tickets. Travel any time or any day you wish, and buy in advance or on the day.

First Class

First Class provides you with a comfortable and spacious environment. For business customers, first class enables you to use your journey time productively and for leisure customers to watch the world go by. At the weekends and on public holidays, you can upgrade to first class. Starting from only £5.

When is my ticket valid?

Advance

Advance tickets go on sale up to 12 weeks before the date of travel and must be booked by 23:59 on the day before travel. They are not available on every train, and prices will vary at different days and times. You must travel at the date and time you have booked.

Super Off-Peak – Weekdays

You may be able to travel earlier than shown below, so check with a journey planner such as National Rail’s journey planner.

Travel towards London Waterloo:

  • Not valid on trains arriving into London Waterloo and any station in London Zones 1-6 between 04:30 and 11:59.

Travel from London Waterloo:

  • Not valid on trains departing London Waterloo between 16:00 and 19:00; Vauxhall between 16:04 and 19:04; Clapham Junction between 16:07 and 19:09.

If you have Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard and your journey is wholly within the London Zones 1-6 area, these restrictions do not apply.

Non-London journeys:

  • Not valid on trains departing between 04:30 and 10:59.

Super Off-Peak – Weekends and Public Holidays

You may be able to travel earlier than shown below, so check with a journey planner such as  National Rail’s journey planner.

Travel towards London Waterloo:

  • Not valid on trains arriving into London Waterloo and any station in London Zones 1-6 between 09:31 and 11:59.

Travel from London Waterloo:

  • Not valid on trains departing

London Waterloo between 04:30 and 10:59 or 16:00 and 18:30

Vauxhall between 04:30 and 11:05 or 16:03 and 18:35

Clapham Junction between 04:30 and 11:05 or 16:09 and 18:40

If you have Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard and your journey is wholly within the London Zones 1-6 area, these restrictions do not apply.

Non-London journeys:

  • Not valid on trains departing between 04:30 and 10:59, except as below.
  • Weekend Super Off-Peak tickets are valid for travel at any time if you’re travelling from or to a station along one of the following lines of routes:

West of England: Tisbury – Exeter St Davids; Warminster – Bristol Temple Meads; Westbury – Yeovil.

South Western Mainline: Brockenhurst – Weymouth/Lymington.

But you can’t break your journey if you travel to, from, or via a station outside of these lines or routes, for example Bournemouth – London Waterloo.

Off-Peak

You may be able to travel earlier than shown below, so check with a journey planner such as National Rail’s journey planner.

Off-Peak tickets are valid for travel at any time at weekends and public holidays. Monday to Friday, the following restrictions apply.

Travel towards London Waterloo:

  • Not valid on trains arriving into London Waterloo and any station in London Zones 1-6 between 04:30 and 09:59

Travel from London Waterloo:

  • Not valid on trains departing London Waterloo between 04:30 and 08:59
  • First Class Off-Peak tickets are not valid on trains departing:

London Waterloo between 16:00 and 19:00

Vauxhall between 16:04 and 19:04

Clapham Junction between 16:07 and 19:09.

Non-London journeys:

  • Use a journey planner to check – time restrictions vary across the rail network.

Anytime

Just like it says – no restrictions.
