Burns Night

Celebrate Scotland's National Poet with events across our network

Celebrating the renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns, Burns Night is one of the highlights of the Scottish calendar. With a traditional piper's welcome, the address to the haggis, and all the splendour of the finest Scottish whiskies, it's a unique insight in to a truly wonderful culture.

Fortunately, as the Scottish have moved across the UK and the world, they've taken Burns Night with them, and we can enjoy a number of events celebrating Scotland's national poet right here on our network. Whether it's just traditional Scottish fayre, or a full-on ceilidh (pronounced "kay-lee"), there's plenty to enjoy.

haggis neeps and tatties - celebrate Burns night with South Western RailwayBurns Night Supper, Ferneham Hall Fareham
Raising funds for The Rainbow Centre, the Burns Night Supper at Ferneham Hall has been a sell-out event for 2017 and 2018. There’s a traditional piper to greet you on entry, an address and toast to the haggis, and it’s all followed by traditional Scottish dancing led by the Woodsiders Ceilidh Band and their caller, who'll talk you through the steps of each dance.

Burns Night Dance with the Ceilidh Club
It really wouldn't be Burns Night without a ceilidh. Three hours of dancing to a wonderful band and caller, and haggis, neeps and tatties served buffet-style through the evening. But if you've never danced before, don't worry - learning is half the fun of the night! The caller will let you know just what you have to do, so by the end of the night you'll be dancing like a pro. The Ceilidh Club are pretty relaxed about how you come, but tartan "is always appreciated".

Burns Night at Crol and Co with the Rhythm and Booze Project
Spend the evening with Felipe and Paul for a combination gig and whisky tasting night, featuring vegetarian haggis canapés. This one-of-a-kind event, with open whisky bar (!!) and its intimate venue at Crol and Co in Bermondsey, is expected to be a hit - so best to book soon!

Burns Night at Boisdale Mayfair
Touted as the unofficial embassy of Scotland in London, Boisdale are putting together an exceptional series of Burns Night celebrations. Plus there's wine, whisky and a traditional piper, making this an unmissable occasion for any curious Sassenachs that can't head north for a traditional Burns Night.
